Do I have to till in preparation for the installation of sod? The ground is not hard (clay). Does the area have to clear of leaves?

If you add soil amendments, including leaves, they should be tilled into the native soil. This stops the layering and interfacing effect in the soil profile. The idea to till prior to sodding/seeding also helps loosen the soil so the grass roots can reach further for water and nutrients.
