How many square feet of sod come on a pallet?

600 square feet of sod are stacked on a pallet.

How much does each roll weigh?

Weight varies with moisture content; if it rained recently, the sod will be heavier. On average, rolls weigh about 35 lbs. and a pallet weighs about 2,000 lbs.

How far in advance do I need to place an order?

Pick-up orders need only about a half hour's notice. Delivery orders generally need about 2 days, although it is possible to receive sod same or next day.

Does Central Sod install sod?

We are only a sod grower/supplier; we do not install sod. We are happy to direct you to a landscaper in your area that we recommend.

How long does it take to grow a crop of sod?

It takes an average of 14 months from seeding to harvesting in a given field.

Do sod farms have to constantly replace soil removed from years of harvesting?

No. Sod is cut very thinly, and the soil on each roll is mostly root matter. Also, when the sod is harvested, many roots remain in the field which decompose into soil. There are fields that have been producing sod for decades that are still at the same elevation as adjoining fields.

How soon must I lay the sod after receiving it?

This varies greatly by season. In summer, sod must be installed within about 24 hours. Contrast that with 1-2 weeks with sod shipped in the middle of winter.
